Improving your vocal technique

It’s more important than ever that we keep our voices fit and healthy - not only will it help improve our overall choral standards, but it will ensure that your voice remains healthy and strong for many years to come.

We’ve developed a series of resources to help you strengthen your voice and vocal range and compliment what you learn at rehearsals. Please keep your eye on this dedicated page as we’ll continue to upload new tutorials as they become available.

VOCAL TECHNIQUES WITH KARINA BAILEY

We are delighted to share a series of vocal technique tutorials developed in collaboration with Australian operatic soprano, Karina Bailey.

Australian opera singer Karina is classically trained with 10 years of teaching experience. She completed her Master of Music at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, and is currently based in Sydney.

There are 6 modules to complete - we would suggest you work through them sequentially but feel free to dive into a specific module if you’d like to focus on a particular area of weakness.

Meet Karina and learn how you can use the video modules to better understand your voice and singing technique.

Karina shows us how to set up our vocal instrument and warm up our bodies to get ready to sing.

Karina takes us through techniques and exercises for building a deep, free and energetic breath to support our singing.

Karina demystifies support - what it is, how to use & engage it, how to sing from the diaphragm.

Warmups WITH PETER

Our Musical Director, Peter Ellis takes us through some simple vocal warm-ups.

Challenge yourself to a minor scale warmup!

Here’s a warm-up to keep your voice supple. Do you recognise it?

Let’s work on those semiquaver runs.

Let’s focus on our vocal health. This first set of warmups looks to maintain brightness and keep our breath under control.
