Peter Ellis, our Music Director

A native of Halifax, UK, Peter Ellis has been Music Director of Willoughby Symphony Choir since 2015. He has since conducted them in three recordings, prepared them for WSO performances in the Concourse and Sydney Opera House and conducted them in performances with the WSO, Ku-ring-gai Philharmonic and Australian Lawyers Orchestras.

 

He has been Director of Choral Programs at Sydney’s Barker College since 2012. As well as direction of one of Australia’s largest school choral programs, Peter is conductor of the college’s renowned Chamber Choir. With Barker’s choirs he has conducted in Boston, New York, Washington DC, Istanbul, Cannakale, Gallipoli, Edinburgh, York, London, Villers Brettoneux and Paris.

 

Peter is a former music director of the Eastern Sydney Chamber Orchestra, Newcastle University Choir and Tenor Australis. He has made numerous guest apearances with choral and orchestral ensembles in Sydney, and as a participant in the Symphony Australia conductor development program, Peter conducted the Tasmanian, Adelaide and Queensland Orchestras. Peter also works regularly as an organist and continuo harpsichordist.

 

In 2018 Peter conducted several WSC concerts, a Vaughan Willams program for the Willoughby Symphony Orchestra, Kids Proms, and Tchaikovsky and Prokofiev for the Ku-ring-gai Philharmonic.
